Glad we hung on to beat SMS, they are a decent team, it is for sure a rebuilding year for them and I wish them the best but they should have never fired Barry Hinson. He played some BRUTAL schedules and got hosed by the selection committee a couple times. He was a perfect fit for them.
This was the first of what should be 4 wins in a row before the BYU game. If we dont see Hernandez in these games for 10-15 minutes I think it is fair to say he is not going to contribute to this team because these next 3 games are against terrible teams. The thing I want to see the most is better FT shooting, more assists and less TOs. We have no chemistry and that is killing us.
I've seen (corrected for the small minded grammar police) some posts about it and let me reiterate, RPI is a useless tool at this point, well, almost. A better way than straight RPI is rpiforecast.com, at least they attempt to forecast the season. There are probably 15 teams in the RPI top 50 currently that are no better than 150 or so. Until all the teams are connected to eachother thru common opponents, there is not a lot of validity in any computer analysis. Right now, I tend to agree with RPIforecast, I think 18-12 is a fair assumption of what our record will be at this point. I hope our RPI is higher than 98 though and I would be discouraged if our SOS was over 100. It may be though, even with this upgrade, there are just too many dogs on the schedule still and CUSA is not as good as we hoped. There is still time though.
So, let's get ready to blow out three teams in a row and use that momentum to beat a very solid BYU team at home. After that, we can start to feel good about where we are. From there, we are a good road win away from being a contender for the top tier of CUSA.

Going into BYU 9-4 would be really really huge for the program.
ReplyDeleteThe Loyola game scares me for some reason.
All hail to Ash.

LMU hasnt been the same since Hank Gathers was there. They have been whored out by their AD to help raise money for the athletic dept. They are prolly gonna be 1-10 when we get them. We win by 15+. They do have a sweet campus though.
ReplyDeleteA couple dogs will go a long ways towards destroying your SOS. So far NC Central (0-10) and Loyola (0-8) along with underachievers ORU (1-6) and Charlotte (3-6) have done the trick. I know you're down on Illinois, but in the end I think we'll look back and really regret missing a great opportunity to beat a tourney team. As it is, it's looking like this team will be 8-4 heading into the BYU game, which will be the biggest home game in a couple years. If we aren't 9-4 at the end of December, then I have a difficult time figuring out how we even find the bubble from there. Hopefully Woj finds that CUSA tourney potion a little earlier this year.

ReplyDelete"I seen some posts"... nice english. Shouldn't we learn to speak correctly before having our own blogs?
ReplyDeleteIt be the internets anonymASS, I aint running this thru no proofreaders. You can be an uneducated idiot and have your own blogs, no doy, aint you seen the drudge report?
ReplyDeletePS anonymous haters will not be treated with much respect, haters are welcome but pull out your nertz and post under your real name, or even a clever fake one
Ash, why didn't you make thought-provoking posts like this over on ITS, instead of just arguing and being negative all the time?
ReplyDeleteYou could have actually been a benefit to discussions with this type of stuff. Now you are just going to be over here talking to yourself.
Oh well.
I made plenty of these posts, they just got lost over there. Also, I didnt feel the need to tag my questions with something hopeful as in most cases it had already been said by too many. I mean, it should be a given that everyone who posts regularly is a fan and we are wanting to win every game. We are hopeful, even if it suppressed at times. When we played OU, there was a part of me that thought we could win. Of course, that part of me had it's nertz smashed in within 5 minutes of tip off.
